ABFO No. 2 Photomacrographic Scale

Designed by the American Board of Forensic Odontology (ABFO), this scale is the gold - standard for bitemark measurement and photography. It features three circles that help correct distortion from oblique camera angles. All graduations are metric, except for the 1 - wide leg width. The 1cm navision lines can be traced and extended across the print to create a grid on the image. You can then make measurements relative to these 1cm grid lines to counteract distortion from non - parallel film and object planes.

Using this scale is quite straightforward. When taking bitemark photos, place the scale right next to the bitemark. Make sure it's in the same plane as much as possible to reduce distortion. The three circles on the scale are there to help you adjust for any distortion if the camera angle isn't perfect. Once you've taken the photo, you can trace the 1cm navision lines across the print to create a grid. Then, you can measure anything in the image relative to these grid lines. As for maintenance, keep it clean. Wipe it gently with a soft cloth after each use. Avoid exposing it to harsh chemicals or extreme temperatures, as this could damage the scale and affect its accuracy.
