Hesco Testing Protocol

NIJ Certification of hard armor needs 10” x 12” test plates to defeat specific rounds in a valid NIJ shot pattern after a strict conditioning test. Level III requires six M80 rounds per plate, and Level IV requires one AP M2 per plate. Other same - construction torso plates can be included in the Certification without extra NIJ testing.

Hesco sets a higher standard by showing the minimum shots each size plate can handle under similar NIJ tests and listing more threats not covered by NIJ certification. Check the Threat Performance Matrix for details.

These plates feature an advanced ceramic/Spectra® design, are multi - shot rated for selected threats, offer light AP protection like against 5.56 x 45 M855. They have a water - repellant polyurethane - coated CORDURA® fabric finish and are made in the USA.

They're tested and verified to meet or exceed ballistic resistance as per NIJ Standard– 0101.06, including special rifle threats.
