Hesco Testing Protocol
NIJ Certification of hard armor needs 10” x 12” test plates. They must defeat specific rounds in a valid NIJ shot pattern after a strict conditioning test to simulate aging and wear. Level III requires six M80 rounds per plate, and Level IV requires one AP M2 per plate. NIJ allows other size torso plates of the same construction to be included in the Certification without more testing.
Hesco sets a higher standard. They publish the minimum number of shots each size plate can defeat under NIJ - like testing and list extra threats not covered by NIJ Certification. Check the Threat Performance Matrix for details.

Using the Hesco 800 Series 3810 Level III+ plates is straightforward. First, choose the right size for you from the available options: 3810 - SH - MC - L or 3810 - SH - MC - S. Make sure to wear them in a proper armor carrier that fits well. This will ensure maximum protection and comfort during use. When it comes to maintenance, keep the plates dry as they have a waterproof coating, but it's still a good idea to avoid long - term exposure to water. Don't expose the plates to extreme temperatures or sharp objects that could damage the coating or the material inside. If the plates get dirty, you can gently wipe them with a soft, damp cloth. Also, remember that these plates are made to order, so you'll need to wait 8 - 12 weeks for delivery. Check the Threat Performance Matrix regularly to know the minimum number of shots your plate size can handle against different threats. If you have any doubts or notice any damage to the plates, it's best to contact Hesco's customer service for advice.
